Here is the blast from the past. An old and rare picture captured is now widely shared online. The picture sees former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi greeting and saying ‘Namaskar’ to Mahanaraja Pusapati Vijayarama Gajapati Raju who is also known as The Maharaj Saheb of Vizianagaram. The picture was reportedly taken when the Maharaja of Vizianagaram dynasty had donated 600 acres of his land for Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. This act of benevolence has impressed then PM Indira Gandhi along with the locals. The Raja’s family is known for several such acts of kindness. They were one of the richest families in the country. And his father the Maharaja of Vizianagaram had also served as the Member of Parliament.
In the wake of AP’s Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao’s harsh and belittling criticism of former Union Minister and TDP’s senior leader Ashok Gajapati Raju’s father, there has been a huge counter criticism against Vellampalli. In this backdrop, this rare picture of Raju’s father is going viral. Gajapati Raju’s family commands high respect in the region. Raju has royal lineage. Gajapati Raju reigned the Vizianagaram dynasty.
Vellampalli’s comments have not gone down well with netizens. Social media is abuzz with the greatness of Raju’s family history and their generous acts. As part of this, the above picture is being widely shared by a section. Already, Kshatriya Parishad community members have vowed to fight against Vellampalli. This backlash is not expected by the YSRCP government which is now caught off guard with the minister’s dirty comments.
