More than three months after the verdict on the Babri Masjid demolition case was delivered by a CBI special court, two residents of Ayodhya on Friday moved the Allahabad High Court challenging the acquittal of all the 32 accused, including BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi.
Haji Mahboob and Haji Sayyad Akhlaq Ahmad filed the petition in Lucknow bench of the high court on behalf of All India Muslim Personal Law Board.
The duo challenged the special court’s judgement after the CBI did not approach the high court against the acquittal of the accused by the special court, a counsel of the petitioners said.
In 2020, after 28 years of the Babri Masjid demolition, the CBI special court acquitted all the 32 people, including BJP leader Uma Bharati and others, accused of inciting a mob of kar sevaks to raze the mosque.
The Kar Sevaks and Hindus believed that the mosque was constructed after demolishing a temple existing at the birthplace of Lord Rama.
The CBI special court, in its judgement running into 2,300 pages, let off all the accused saying there was no conclusive evidence that they hatched any conspiracy to demolish the disputed structure in Ayodhya.
While the Hindus welcomed the judgement of the special court, Muslims expressed dissatisfaction and felt justice was not delivered.
