Indian Politicians Who Died In 2020 Due To Covid-19

Coronavirus has left many heartbroken and celebrities/famous personalities are no different. As we complete one whole year of Covid-19 lockdown in India, let us remember some of the prominent politicians who lost their lives to the deadly virus. Just like how thousands of non-celebrities and unknown citizens died of coronavirus across the globe, even stalwarts had to lose the battle to the virus, with or without underlying health conditions.

Pranab Mukherjee: On the 1st of September 2020, the former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee died after being tested positive for coronavirus. It was reported that Mr Mukherjee underwent brain surgery in August and his condition deteriorated over the next few days.

Tarun Gogoi: Tarun Gogoi was the longest-served Chief Minister of Assam and he had tested positive for the virus at the age of 84. In spite of sheer recovery from the infection, Gogoi passed away on November 23, 2020, as some serious complications appeared pertinent to the virus.

We also have Senior Congress leader, Ahmed Patel, who passed away on November 25, 2020, due to coronavirus. Also, a Former Indian cricketer and minister in UP Cabinet, Chetan Chauhan passed away after getting contracted the deadly virus on August 15, 2020. Chauhan, who was 73 years old, developed kidney problems after getting covid19.

It was reported that apart from a former President, four ex-chief ministers, one union and seven state ministers, and several lawmakers have succumbed to Covid-19 in the last year.

BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Abhay Bhardwaj, ex Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, who is credited for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment, Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi and Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Namgyal were some of the politicians who died last year due to coronavirus. Presently, India recorded 46,951 new cases of coronavirus infections
