The High Court gives a two-day ultimatum to the Telangana government to decide on a lockdown in handling coronavirus cases in the state. “Within 48 hours, the government must decide on a lockdown or curfew, otherwise the court shall issue orders,” the High Court said.
The High Court also issued a set of instructions and asked for a full report from the Telangana government. Telangana recorded 4,009 cases and 14 deaths in the last 24 hours.
On the Covid-19 reports, the High Court found many loopholes. “The data from the districts and daily bulletin being released by the state government has huge differences. Why is it so? Why are people coming from other states not being tested? When will the government take adequate measures to contain the virus? Or Should the High Court intervene and send orders,” fumed the court. As it is marriage season, the court ordered the government to take action on huge gatherings and tackle the spike in cases.
“What are the measures taken to contain the crowd at cinema halls, bars, clubs and pubs?,” questioned the High Court. “What happened to precautions should be taken at wines and pubs which are always over crowded? Is making revenue your priority,” asked the court further.
The government is yet to come up with a response on Friday. Yesterday, health minister Eatala Rajender said that twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad has been the epicentre of the second wave and at least 50% of the 37,000-plus active cases in the second wave have been reported from the twin cities.
Scheduling another hearing, the Court has asked the government to provide all the details taken by the government in view of the second wave as of Monday and ordered the concerned officials to be present before it.
It has to be seen how the TRS government will reply to the High Court. But for sure, the court will be looking into minute details and seek explanation on everything from the government.
