Jagan’s Sudden Delhi Tour! What’s Going On?

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would fly to Delhi and meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday. It is learnt that Reddy was told by Shah’s office that the time of his appointment would be informed, once he reaches the national capital tomorrow morning.

Shah reportedly has not been meeting anyone directly for the past few days except for holding online conferences with the officials. It is being said Shah yielded to Jagan’s special request following some statements supporting the Centre in the recent past.

During the second wave, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren tweeted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was suppressing him from raising the Covid-19 concerns. Responding to this, Jagan exhorted Soren not to highlight the differences at the crisis hour. He suggested that Soren set aside politics and support Modi in the fight against the pandemic.

There is talk that Jagan is leaving for Delhi to find solution to several problems he has been facing during Covid crisis. He also sought appointment with other Union ministers but reportedly gave more importance to meeting Shah.

After Raghurama Krishna Raju’s episode, the YCP government has been pushed into more trouble with the MP already lodging a complaint with the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over the physical torture and rough treatment rendered to him in AP-CID custody. He even charged Guntur Urban SP Ammireddy with hatching a conspiracy against him following which the police officer was transferred.

Earlier, the MP filed a petition seeking cancellation of Jagan’s bail in the CBI court at Nampally in connection with the disproportionate assets case. The CBI also told the court to weigh the pros and cons and then take a decision on Jagan’s bail. Recently, the Centre also sent back bills on Polavaram works to the state government which is already reeling under financial crisis.

Jagan also wrote letters to CMs of various states seeking support in the vaccination drive.

Significantly, the details of Jagan’s visits to Delhi are never informed to the public. The opposition leaders say that that the only agenda of CM visit to Delhi is the cases registered against him. While a few media houses say that he flew to Delhi to speak on several issues relating to the state, the RTI queries reveal that he never posed any questions on the unkept promises made during bifurcation of the state.

It has to be seen how far would Jagan be successful in presenting the issues of the state during this visit.
