Telugu’s First News Anchor Shanti Swaroop No More

In a setback to the Telugu news media community, veteran newsreader and Telugu’s first TV news presenter Shanti Swaroop passed away. He breathed his last this morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad. A few days ago, Shanti Swaroop suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital where he succumbed.

Shanti Swaroop was the first to read Telugu news on Television in November 1983. He worked as a newsreader at Doordarshan TV and retired. He made an indelible impression. Without a teleprompter, he read the news just by looking at the paper for ten years. He started reading news on Doordarshan on Nov 14, 1983. He is a name that Telugu people do not need to be introduced to. He worked for Doordarshan till his retirement in 2011. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Shanti Swaroop is survived by his wife and two sons.

Several political leaders and media houses have condoled Shanti Swaroop’s passing away.
