In a major welfare initiative, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated ₹755 crore for the ThaaiMaaman Gold Ring Scheme. Every baby born in a government hospital to a permanent Tamil Nadu resident family will receive a 1-gram gold ring. The scheme took effect yesterday, with official distribution set to begin on September 15.
