Happy B’Day Sachin – The God of cricket

Sachin Tendulkar, fondly known as God of cricket, turned 47 today and this legendary player decided to not celebrate his birthday as a mark of respect to the COVID-19 warriors. He feels that it is not appropriate to celebrate amid the pandemic and pay tribute to frontliners. Sachin tweeted that he took blessings of his mother and started the day. He also said that he was gifted a picture of Lord Ganesha by his mother on this special day. “Absolutely priceless,” Tendulkar tweeted along with the picture.

The 47-year-old greatest batsman is the highest run-scorer of all-time in International cricket. Starting his career at the age of 11, Tendulkar made his test debut in 1989 against Pakistan at the age of 16. He was awarded Arjuna award in 1994, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 1997, the Padma in 1999 and Padma Vibhsuan in 2008. India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna was given to Tendulkar after PMO India announced a few hours later of the final match on 16 November 2003. This makes Sachin the youngest and the first sportsman to receive the prestigious award.

His achievements and records are a neverending list. He also holds the world record for playing the highest number of Test matches (200) and ODI matches (463). His playing has made generations fall in love with the sport and remained the best batsman in the history of the game.

So far, Tendulkar played 664 ODIs and 34357 runs. He announced his retirement from ODIs in December 2012 and from Twenty20 cricket in October 2013. Sachin has witnessed one of the rarest and precious sayings by his fans and that is “Cricket is my religion and Sachin is my God”. This makes him the most worshipped cricketer in the world.
