The Last Dance of Sania Mirza

Indian Tennis sensation Sania Mirza played her last women’s doubles match at the 2023 Australian Open on Sunday, where she and her partner Anna Danilina from Kazakhstan were defeated in the second round.

Following the match, Mirza took to social media and posted a photo of herself with a heartfelt caption, marking the end of her journey in women’s doubles.

Prior to the tournament, Mirza had announced that the Australian Open would be her last Grand Slam and that she would retire after the WTA Dubai Championships in February. In her post, Mirza shared a photo of herself from her final women’s doubles match and added a poignant caption to reflect on the end of her career.

Sania took to Twitter to post a picture of her on the court, with the caption: “The Last Dance.”

Sania Mirza and Anna Danilina were eliminated from the Australian Open in their second-round women’s doubles match against Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck and Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina, with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 2-6.

The match lasted for nearly two hours, during which the six-time world champion Sania and her partner trailed 0-3 in the second set but made a strong comeback by winning three consecutive games.

Despite this defeat, Mirza is still competing in the mixed doubles category at the Australian Open, partnering with Rohan Bopanna. The veteran pair won their first-round match against Jaimee Fourlis and Luke Saville with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
