It is already known that Sunrisers Hyderabad left its former captain Kane Williamson from the team a few months ago. Since then, there were many speculations about the next captain of the team. Finally, SRH announced its new captain a few weeks ahead of the start of IPL 2023.
South African all-rounder Aiden Markram has been named the new captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team management continued its tradition of opting for overseas captain. In the past, the likes of Kumara Sangakkara, Cameron White, David Warner and Kane Williamson have led the team.
Aiden Markram is a proven skipper. He won the U-19 World Cup for South Africa in 2014. He also led Sunrisers Eastern Cape in winning the inaugural season of SA 20 league. In this tournament, Markram also won the Man of the Tournament award for scoring 336 runs and picking up 11 wickets.
It was reported that Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Agarwal were in the captaincy race along with Markram. But in the end, the leadership responsibility has been handed over to Markram. Sunrisers Hyderabad will play its first match in IPL 2023 on April 2nd, against Rajasthan Royals.
