World Cup: Afghanistan Scripts History By Winning Over Pakistan

In a remarkable turn of events at the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, Afghanistan, led by Hashmatullah Shahidi, achieved a stunning victory over Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Afghanistan’s team scripted history with this victory.

Babar Azam’s Pakistani team suffered their third defeat of the tournament as Afghanistan proved their giant-killing reputation once again.

Pakistan, the 1992 World Cup champions, had previously won against the Netherlands and staged an impressive chase against Sri Lanka in this World Cup. However, they faced defeats from India, Australia, and now Afghanistan.

The Afghan team, known for their spirited performances, secured their first-ever win over Pakistan in eight One Day Internationals (ODIs). Also, it is the first time that the team won two games in a World Cup. Their remarkable victory over Pakistan follows their earlier surprise triumph against defending world champions England, winning by a substantial 69-run margin in Delhi.

Afghanistan has only won three games in the history of the ODI World Cup. Their first victory came in 2015 against Scotland. This time, Afghanistan sealed their historic win by defeating Pakistan by eight wickets, marking their highest successful run chase in the 50-over format.

With this, the Afghan team dented the semi-final hopes of Pakistan. Team Pakistan has to win the next few games without fail.
