India beat South Africa by nine wickets in the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup final held at Bayuemas Oval in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
Opener Gongadi Trisha scored 44 in the final match.
Winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first and India did not find it difficult to chase only 83 runs.
India lost only one wicket and moved ahead to cross the target.
Earlier, the Indian bowling unit helped India bundle out South Africa for 82 in 20 overs in the final.
India won all their group-stage matches, against West Indies, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Scotland in the Super Six.
During the semifinal, India defeated England registering six successive victories.
In the Group C, South Africa won over New Zealand, Samoa and Nigeria. Later in the Super Six round, it defeated Ireland, but had share points with the USA, as the game was disrupted due to rain. In the semifinal, South Africa defeated Australia to win a spot in the final.
Trisha emerged as India’s brightest cricketing star at the U19 World Cup.
Indian Women’s U19 team skipper Niki Prasad said that they just remained calm to stay simple and did whatever was needed. This strategy worked and the Indian team emerged victorious.
