It’s a heartbreak for Virat Kohli fans. Everyone expected that he would return as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)’s captain this year in the Indian Premier League but unfortunately, he decided not to lead the side. As a result, RCB named Rajat Patidar as its new skipper.
RCB’s management made this official announcement just about a while ago in Bengaluru. RCB released its former captain Faf du Plessis ahead of the auction last year. Thinking that Virat would be their captain, RCB didn’t go for any captain-material players in the auction.
Initially, Virat was also interested in leading the side. However, it was heard that he decided not to take captaincy duties and announced the same to the management a few days ago. Thus, RCB had no option but to choose from Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya. Eventually, they opted for Patidar.
The 31-year-old Patidar has been a key part of RCB for the last few years. Though he will be the skipper of the team, Virat will remain the poster boy for the franchise, just like how Ruturaj leads CSK but the team still promotes using Dhoni’s face.
