One of the longest standing records in the IPL was broken last night as Royal Challengers Bengaluru created history by beating Chennai Super Kings in their home stadium. This is the first time since 2008 that RCB has defeated Chennai in Chepauk.
After being put into bat first, Bengaluru got to 196 Trends, thanks to insane, hitting by Tim David in the final over. However, in their response in this Chennai event, absolutely nowhere due to the lack of consolidated partnerships.
Dhoni came out with intent in the end, but this simply was not enough. His quick knock of 30 runs from 16 balls could not have any sort of impact on the game. In the end, Bengaluru ended up beating Chennai by margin of 50 runs.
Bengaluru has something to celebrate as they have broken a 17 year old record against Chennai Super Kings. But the head to head record remains strongly in favour of Chennai who won 21 games against Bengaluru while the later won only 12 games in response.
More importantly, for RCB, they have made a positive start to the IPL by winning the first two games of the tournament. But the issue with RCB over the years has been that they start strongly but lose their way later. It has to be seen if they can maintain any consistency this year.
