Statically and historically speaking, Chennai Super Kings has been one of the most consistent and efficient teams in the history of IPL. But that is not even remotely the case with the team this year, as they have become so very compliant that they are losing to virtually every team in the league.

Coming to the more relevant topic now, Chennai is going to face a crucial encounter today as they will be coming up against Lucknow super Giants. This game is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM today, and it is of essential importance to both sides.

For Lucknow, it is going to be a matter of consolidation of their position at the top of the table and for Chennai, it is a matter of survival.

If Chennai is to be considered as a team that could potentially reach the playoff, then a win against Lucknow tonight is of decisive significance. A lot will be depend, depending on the result today for both teams and particularly so for Chennai Super Kings. 

Chennai has been absolutely pathetic with both bat and ball this season. The main issue with the team has been the disaster starts in the powerplay. Though they have been too many wickets, the problem is with the scoring rate. While other teams are putting up over 10 RPO in powerplay, Chennai is struggling with around 8 RPO. 

A defeat tonight would essentially mean that Chennai’s season is pretty much done and dusted if it isn’t already. It has to be seen if the men in yellow will be able to script a remarkable comeback story starting tonight.
