Historically speaking, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are two of the successful sites in the Indian Premier League. Chennai Super Kings had won the IPL a record equaling five times while Hyderabad won it once.
But in what could be considered a hugely detrimental and disastrous season for both the franchises, they are dwelling at the bottom of the table this year.
While Hyderabad is in ninth position, Chennai is at the very bottom at 10th position. The only thing separating these two teams which had only won 2 games till now is the net run rate which keeps Hyderabad marginally ahead of Chennai.
In terms of composure and strength on paper, Hyderabad is well ahead of Chennai in terms of batting and also bowling. The kind of explosive batters in the Hyderabad lineup can win any game on their own, which was evident in the previous season as well.
However, it is the application and awareness which is lacking for Hyderabad better which has proved to be extremely fatal for the side this year. This needs to be addressed in the game against Chennai today if Hyderabad is to stand any chance of staging what appears to be an unlikely comeback.
But again, this game is going to be played at the Chennai International Stadium, which is known for its slow and low bouncing wickets. So, this is going to be another hugely challenging task for Hyderabad batters to sustain in this bowling friendly pitch conditions.
