Meet The Rule That Is Troubling All Batters In IPL!

For a long time, now, there have been several complaints about the thickness of the cricket bats that are used in IPL. The primary allegation is that players are using thick and tough bats, which come with a lot of power and enormous edges.

The reason why players prefer to have such strong and thick bats is to enhance their hitting range. The thicker, the more further, the ball travels when met at the right degree. This is largely detrimental to bowlers, who are already at a decent advantage in shorter formats like IPL.

However, the IPL governing body appears to have introduced a new regulation in this ongoing season.

Starting this year, empires are starting to assess the thickness of the bat using a measuring scale. This measuring scale is used to determine the thickness of the bat and only the bats which successfully pass this test are allowed to be used in the games.

When this regulation was earlier introduced in this season, it was confined to just a couple of checks per game. Predominantly only the bats of the openers and certain players were checked by this devise.

However, this has become more mainstream now and umpires are checking each and every bat now. This has become a new headache for batsmen as they are having to follow the regulations and comply with the same. Several of the matters in the ongoing game between Chennai and Hyderabad had to change their bats after their original bats failed the thickness test.

In the IPL, the maximum allowed thickness of a cricket bat is 40 mm on the edge and 67 mm in total depth (including the spine). These limits follow the official Laws of Cricket to ensure fairness and maintain a balance between batting and bowling.
