Breaking : Rohit Sharma Announces Retirement From Test Cricket!

Team India’s captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test Cricket with immediate effect. Rohit made this decision amidst reports of him being sacked as Test captain went viral on the internet. We hear that BCCI and the selection committee also backed Rohit’s decision. Rohit will continue playing ODI cricket. He announced his retirement from T20Is last year after India won the T20 World Cup.

Earlier this afternoon, it was reported that the selection committee has decided to sack Rohit Sharma from Test captaincy ahead of the team selection for the upcoming Test series against England, which is scheduled to begin next month. The reports stated that the selection committee made this decision not based on Rohit’s age but after examining his recent form in red-ball cricket.

After these reports went viral on social media, Rohit announced his retirement by penning a note. He wrote, “Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support for all the years. I will continue to represent India in ODIs.”

In his 11-year-old Test career, Rohit Sharma played 67 Tests and captained 24 of them. He scored 4301 runs in total with 12 centuries. Rohit’s Test Captaincy came under scrutiny after India lost the home Test series against New Zealand by 3-0 in 2024 and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by 4-1. Overall, Rohit has a 12-9 win-loss record in Tests as captain.

BCCI and the selection committee are yet to decide on the next captain. But reports say that the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul are in contention for the skipper position, with Bumrah being the frontrunner.
