There is a famous saying in the IPL, which goes like “Once Mumbai Indians starts winning games consistently, then there is no team in the tournament that can come remotely close to stopping them.” Well, this is turning out to be exactly the case now.
After a horrible start to the tournament, Mumbai Indians picked up the momentum in the second half of the season and there has been no looking back ever since.
In the game against Gujarat Titans, last night, Mumbai was absolutely brilliant with bat and ball as they won the eliminator very comfortably. Gujarat was of no match to Mumbai’s intensity and they got humbled rather quickly.
Mumbai will now face the challenge of defeating Punjab in the Qualifier 2 match which is scheduled for June 1. A victory here would mean that Mumbai Indians who enter the finale race and come up against RCB.
If Mumbai somehow ends up in the finale, then this could be danger sign for RCB. Though RCB is a pretty solid team on its own, matching the intensity of Mumbai is not going to be easy.
Add to that Mumbai knows how to deal with hyper hair situations, and they have the experience of winning a 5 IPL titles already. This could be the deciding factor if Mumbai comes up against RCB in the finale.
But the more crucial step for Mumbai here is obviously going to be to win against Punjab in the upcoming game. The focus of the team will be to achieve the immediate goal first and only then will they look at the RCB finale proposition.
