Two of the biggest names associated with Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had left the test format just a few weeks before the start of the ongoing India Vs England test series.
Subsequently, there was a lot of debate happening around the composition of the Indian test team and also their capabilities to face the swinging bowling conditions in England.
Many people expected that India might not make it far in the opening exchanges without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the batting lineup as a mega collapse was expected in the opening test match itself.
However, it needs to be said that India has been uncharacteristically solid and compact with their start for the opening test match against England that started today.
As of now, while we are writing this article, India’s score is 87 runs for no loss. The run rate might be a bit low, but this is a pretty strong start from the Indian batsmen – KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They have looked solid at the top of the order.
While the natural expectation was that the Indian batting lineup would struggle without senior batsmen, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, the young Indian team is proving the opposite with their solid line of defence.
But at the same time, it must be noted that we are very early in the opening test match and it has to be seen how the lineup would hold up over the course of the series.
