India came up short against England in the opening test match of the ongoing series. The visiting nation was no match to England in terms of critical decision making and aggressive gameplay.
England chased a massive target of 371 runs in the fourth innings by losing just five wickets and scoring at a surprisingly good rate. Indian bowlers were not able to trouble the English batsman too much to get a positive result in this scheme.
More concerning India has set a new all-time record by becoming the first team in the history of Test cricket to lose a test match after five individual centuries in the game.
Notably, Indian players had five centuries in this game in the form of KL Rahul, Rishab Pant(twice), Shubhman Gill, and Jaiswal but still fell short.
When India set a massive target of 370 runs in the fourth innings, many people thought there would be a tough contest between bat and ball. But English batsmen opened with tremendous intent and carried the game away from India.
The worst thing about the horrifying defeat for India is the lack of support from the lower order. For instance, India was in a very comfortable position in the first innings by scoring 430 runs for the loss of just three wickets. But by the time, the innings got completed, India was 471 all out.
Lack of support from the lower order is costing India in the test format and this needs to be sorted if things are to be resolved in the near future.
Now that India has comprehensively lost the first test match of the series, a lot will depend on the result of the second game which will start on July 2.
