Meet the New ODI Captain of the Indian Cricket Team

Indian star cricketer Shubman Gill, who is currently leading the Test team, is likely to be appointed as the captain for the One-Day Internationals as well. First, the BCCI is planning to appoint Gill as a captain for India’s 3 match series against Australia.

Former Indian captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also be a part of the series, but the leadership decisions and all official captaincy formalities will be taken care of by Gill. If Gill performs well, the board plans to continue him as the captain for the upcoming ICC World Cup in 2027 to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

A selection meeting is underway today, and Shubhman Gill will make his attendance at the meeting. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is also informed of the development with regard to the change of leadership from Rohit Sharma to Gill.

In his first Test series as a captain, Gill scored 754 runs in five matches in England. The series ended as a draw. A formal confirmation of Gill’s appointment as ODI captain will be made soon.
