The stage is being prepared for the upcoming auction ahead of the IPL 2026 as teams will be hitting the auction table later this month. But in the meanwhile, several unexpected developments have been happening in the last few days.

Just a couple of days ago, legendary IPL player, Faf du Plessis communicated that he is not going to be a part of the 2026 season as he has taken a momentary break.

And just when Cricket fans were processing, this pretty big announcement from Faf there came another big announcement from Andre Russel. This former Kolkata Knight Riders player communicated that he is not going to be a part of the IPL from now on as he has retired from the format.

When it was first communicated that Kolkata is not retaining, Russell, it was expected that he could fetch a record price in the auction. But this was when things went as Russel communicated his retirement, and Kolkata later announced that he is going to be a part of their coaching department. 

These two shocking developments came in quick succession and fans are added to comprehend the same as they were not expecting these two legendary players to depart so early.

It appears that IPL 2026 is going to be without a few legendary players. One can only wonder why so many unexpected incidents are happening right before the 2026 auction as things are looking a bit shaky.
