ICC’s Big Shock to the Bangladesh Cricket Board

The International Cricket Council led by Chairman Jay Shah is said to have turned down the demand made by Bangladesh Cricket board to move their 2026 ICC T20 World Cup matches out of India as per latest reports in the media.

Moreover, ICC has reportedly warned BCB of stringent sporting measures and also forfeiting of points during the tournament if they refuse play in India. Despite BCB claiming security concerns without any tangible and supporting evidence as the reason for its demand, the ICC did not entertain the allegations and conveyed the decision to go ahead with the fixed schedule.

The entire controversy started after BCCI had directed Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rehman in the aftermath of recent diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh due to the volatile political situation. This harsh move came amid political backlash in India over reports of violence against minorities in Bangladesh.

Following this development, Bangladesh announced that it is going to ban broadcast of IPL 2026 season in their country. The BCB convened an emergency meeting and immediately wrote to the ICC, expressing concerns over the safety and security of its players if they were to travel to India for the T20 World Cup.

Though BCB tried to portray security concerns behind its demand, ICC did not fall for the baseless allegations and conveyed the same during the virtual meeting on Tuesday as per reliable sources.

The T20 World Cup will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. Bangladesh will need to play matches in Kolkata and Mumbai.
