Pawan’s Initiative Brings Deserved Recognition to Blind Cricketers

Recently, The Indian women blind cricketers too have won the cricket world cup but sadly not many have got any notice or recognition for their efforts. Though their talent and dedication are no less than any other sportsperson, their struggles often remain unnoticed. However, a timely intervention helped change this situation for the better.

Ap DCM Pawan Kalyan played a timely role in bringing much-needed attention to blind cricketers by raising concerns and later standing by the players in action.

Congratulating the cricketers who won the World Cup, Kalyan presented cheques of Rs. 5 lakhs each to every female cricketer and Rs. 2 lakhs each to the coaches. He honored them by presenting gifts including silk sarees and shawls for each female cricketer, along with mementos, Kondapalli dolls, and Araku coffee.

He assured that he would personally appeal to the Chief Ministers of all states to provide special facilities for the practice of blind cricketers and to stand by them in every way.

His gesture was widely appreciated as it went beyond his official duties and boosted the morale and confidence of the young athletes. It soon went viral across social media nationwide, with many North Indian influencers praising Kalyan’s initiative and quickly campaigning for those talented girls.

Following this renewed attention, support started coming from various quarters. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came forward to extend assistance, giving blind cricket an official push.

Soon after, the Reliance Foundation, under the leadership of Nita Ambani, announced financial support of 5 crores for the team to help blind cricketers with training, equipment and overall welfare.

This initiative reflects the Ambani family’s long-standing interest in supporting sports and social causes. Mukesh Ambani has often spoken about inclusive growth and this support for blind cricketers fits well with that vision.

Blind cricketers and their organisers have been working hard for years, often without proper facilities or recognition. Pawan’s timely notice can be seen as one of the reasons that helped bring their long-pending issues into the spotlight.
