For some strange reason, India is simply unable to get the better of New Zealand even in home conditions, and this was an humiliating display tonight. The third and final ODI game between India and New Zealand in this series ended up in the favour of the visiting nation.
After scoring a big 338 run in the first innings, New Zealand set a significant target to India. In response to this, India was very complacent with the bat as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got out drastically. The failure of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in the middle order did not help the chase either.
Then came a fight back from Virat Kohli and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored a century partnership. This was again followed by another significant partnership between Kohli and Harshit Rana.
But just when India was looking to make a strong comeback in the game, New Zealand pulled things back with the wickets of Harshit and Kohli. In the end, India ended up considering this game by margin of 41 runs as they could score just 296 runs in the second innings.
Virat Kohli was an absolute treat to the eye with the bat again as he scored 124 runs. However, despite his heroic efforts with the bat, India simply could not chase down the target ship by New Zealand and subsequently ended up closing the series 2-1.
This is a humiliating result for India as they have lost the ODI series after having been whitewashed by the very same New Zealand team in the earlier test series. This will go down as one of the big defeat for India in the ODI format in recent years.
