India’s Superstar Is Back, But…

One of the most significant players India has produced in recent decades is Jasprit Bumrah, who can arguably be categorised as the greatest limited-overs bowler in Indian cricket history.

But the problem with Bumrah has been his availability for the national team in the recent past. He had been injuring himself or stepping away from the team for workload balance ever so frequently.

Coming to the topic now, Bumrah had returned to the national duties last night as he played the opening T20 game against New Zealand in Nagpur.

While the return of Bumrah to the national team might be a positive news, his performance is to be noted with great caution. He ended up considering at an economy rate of 10 in the three overs that he called and he did not pick up a single wicket.

It is common for players to take some time to get into the right momentum, and the same might be the case with Bumrah as well. But the problem is that Bumrah had been away from consistent action in the recent past, and he looked very rusty last night.

Considering the fact that the World Cup is coming up in just a few days from now, Bumrah will have to be on the top of his game. He is going to be a crucial part of the team set up and his form will be decisive in India’s project.

The point of concern here is that Bumrah is already scratchy with lack of adequate game time. And he had been struggling to gain momentum and is getting hit for runs. If this reflects in his performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup then India could be in for trouble.
