After the departure of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the T20 format for India, the top batting performances have been rather questionable. Only Abhishek Sharma has been a consistent performer for the team at the top of the order while the likes of Sanju Samson and Shubman Gill have been inconsistent.
Incidentally, we now have the case of pocket dynamite, Ishan Kishan, who is doing a brilliant job for the team. This was on clear display in the second ODI game against New Zealand as Ishan Kishan single-handedly gained momentum for India and played a significant role in the big win.
This has started a natural debate on social media as people are discussing if Ishan Kishan must be replacing either Sanju Samson or Shubman Gill in the full squad.
The crucial point here is that Ishan Kishan might be a very good destructive player on his day, but he has consistency issues. But at the heart of it, it must be noted that Ishan Kishan had made the most of the limited opportunities that he got till now.
On the other hand, we have Sanju Samson, who has been very inconsistent. Even in terms of aggressive batting, Sanju Samson is not as destructive as Ishaan Kishan. Same is the case with Shubman Gill, as he is also a traditionally slow player. But his consistency is a bit more dependable.
There is certain validity to the argument that Ishan Kishan must replace Sanju Samson or Shubman Gill in the team. But this will require more such quality innings from the youngster as it must be noted that both Sanju and Shubman a regular starters for India these days.
