Generally back in the day, when there was a major ICC tournament happening, they used to be a lot of buildup and participation weeks before the commencement. But that is not even remotely the case with the tournaments these days.
In fact, the T20 World Cup that is starting today has been initiated with virtually zero hype as that is not discussion happening on this whatsoever.
Despite the fact that there are several controversial incidents, including Bangladesh being kicked out and Pakistan threatening not to play against India, this World Cup is lacking in any cricketing anticipation.
Subsequently, the tournament has started on every passive note with the opening game between Pakistan and Netherlands today. India will also be playing later in the day against USA, but even that game has no hype as of now.
Perhaps a big game between top teams like India, South Africa, Australia and England could bring back some of the hype, but that’s a different case altogether.
A few people are arguing that the overdose of Cricket, as way too many games between top countries are happening ever so frequently and this might’ve diluted the vacuum for these ICC tournaments.
