T20 WC: India’s Semifinal Chances Go Down Again?

Team India was very substandard in the game against South Africa in the super 8 stages of the T20 World Cup. This significant defeat to South Africa is now going to cost the team very heavily as their semifinals chances plummeted further.

Incidentally, West Indies was able to beat Zimbabwe by a very comprehensive margin of 107 runs and this is going to be a crucial statistic. West Indies now has a super positive on rate of +5.3 while India is struggling at -3.

The big win for West Indies against South Africa will essentially mean that India’s chances of qualifying for the semifinals have taken another shot.

The scenario for India to proceed to the semi-final now is that West Indies must lose to South Africa in the upcoming game, and this must be followed by India winning the game against Zimbabwe.

And the most importantly for India, they will have to register a big win against West Indies in the upcoming game. This will be the point of difference now.

For India to qualify, West Indies will have to lose both the remaining games while India will need to win both of them by a big margin. What is for certain here is that India will have to be absolutely on top of their game in the next two games and they will have to hope that South Africa will be able to defeat West Indies.
