Costliest Flop In IPL History?

The IPL is the richest cricket tournament in the world, and in accordance with this, players receive huge amounts of money as salary if they show great potential. But at the same time, they run the risk of getting absolutely humiliated if they do not perform on the big stage.

On that note, we have the case of extremely talented Indian youngster, Rishabh Pant, who is struggling to uphold his Cricket journey at this point.

Rishabh Pant is the costliest player in the history of IPL as Lucknow bought him for a record, breaking ₹27 crore last auction. However, immediately after his procurement, Rishabh Pant failed badly to make a mark for himself in Lucknow last year.

Except for the half century, in the final game of the tournament for Lucknow, last year, Rishabh Pant was very ordinary with the bat. He was very complacent with the captaincy position as well.

Cut to 2026 season better things were expected of him, not just from the Lucknow franchise, but also from the fans of Indian Cricket as well. However, Rishabh Pant has again failed to create a strong impact as he got out for seven runs from nine balls in the game against Delhi last night.

It turns out to be that Rishabh Pant is not just struggling to score runs with the bat, but he is also failing as the captain of Lucknow, which is a very bad thing for him, and also the franchise owners who paid insane amount of money.

It wasn’t long before Rishabh Pant was seen as the next big star in Indian cricket, and he was given a long run in the national team as well. But things have been going over the last couple of years, as the youngster is unable to repeat his earlier heroics. This rate he might go down as the costliest failure in IPL history.

We have seen players like Glenn Maxwell and others who were bought for exorbitant and prize, but failed to match the same. But the case of Rishabh Pant is completely different as he is the costliest player in the league history and is also one of the talented youngsters who has a lot of potential. It is sad to see him fail so badly in the recent past.
