Since the start of the IPL Chennai Super Kings has been one of the most consistent teams in the league, and they have even gone on to win 5 IPL trophies till now. But the problem has been with the fact that the team has been struggling to cope without Dhoni.
For instance, we have the ongoing season of the IPL Chennai Super Kings has lost the opening two games and that too against non mainstream teams like Rajasthan and Punjab.
The most recent defeat came against Punjab Kings last night as Chennai Super Kings was absolutely batted away from the game. Despite scoring 200 runs in the first innings, Chennai could not defend this target against a strong Punjab batting lineup.
This would be the second consecutive defeat for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing season of IPL and things are only going to get tougher from now on as they will be facing defending champions RCB in the next game on Sunday.
The point to be noted is that Dhoni had been away from the start of the IPL and he is likely to miss the first two weeks of the league. And in his absence, Chennai has been unable to cope up with the pressure in the big games. Crucial captaincy choices that Dhoni would have gotten right now being messed up by the current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Chennai never usually lose the opening two games of the tournament but that’s their fate this time. Will the team be able to put up a better performance once Dhoni and Dewald Brewis return to the squad? Only time will answer this question.
