Time for a Deserving Player to Lead Team India?

The Indian T20 team is constantly evolving with new players coming in, and the senior players plotting to become the new captains. It could be a matter of time before the underperforming and ageing Surya Kumar Yadav could be replaced as the captain of the Indian T20 team, though it might not be an immediate decision.

On that note, we have the latest discussion about the possibility of appointing Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of the Indian T20 team.

As of now, Shreyas Iyer is not even a constant part of the Indian T20 team, but the kind of performances that he had been putting up in the domestic and IPL is exemplary. He won the IPL title with KKR and then moved to Punjab Kings, where he took them to the finals last year and almost won the trophy. 

Again, this year, Punjab Kings has been in brutal form and they have not lost a single game till now under the captaincy of Shreyas. It needs to be said that Shreyas is absolutely phenomenal as a player and also as a captain in the recent times.

This is naturally opening the doors for the appointment of Shreyas as the full-time captain of the Indian T20 team, as no other player is as equipped and well performing as him. If given the chance everyone across the country, Shreyas as the right choice, and there is no debating this fact.

There might be other seniors like Hardik Pandya and Jaspreet Bumrah in the Indian T20 team but the kind of results that Shreyas has been bringing is truly remarkable. 

If Punjab goes on to win the IPL trophy this year, then the legacy of Shreyas could be cemented that much further, and he could very well be staking his claim at the Indian T20 captaincy position.
