Is Dhoni Unofficially Retired From IPL?

One of the biggest names associated with the history of IPL is Mahendra Singh Dhoni and he had been the primary pulling face for the league for the last decade. However, he is unavailable for the most part of the 2026 season due to a calf injury.

Earlier it was communicated that Dhoni would be unavailable for the first two weeks of the IPL due to the leg injury. But this got extended beyond the mentioned point and it appears that he’s pretty much done with the league.

More than half of this season has been completed already, and there is still no news about the possible return of Dhoni yet.

When asked to comment on this matter, a CSK top representative remarked that Dhoni might be available at a point in time, but it is not the case now.

And now, even friends have come to a conclusion that Dhoni might be done and dusted with his IPL career as he’s constantly staying away from the playing arena. This is understandable in terms of age and physical abilities of the star player who is already 44.

But in terms of fans emotions, it needs to be said that this unofficial determined from Dhoni is not a good thing. Many fans would have been at least expecting a farewell game for him at the iconic Chepauk Stadium.

We have to patiently wait and see if Dhoni would actually take the time and refer to at least play the farewell game in IPL or whether he is done with it for good. Alas, he’s known for such silent retirements like the way he casually dropped from tests in the middle of the Australian test series.
