Chennai Super Kings had a pretty strong run in the middle phase of IPL. But just when they needed a strong push towards the end of the tournament, Chennai Super Kings team fell short of what was expected.
After losing the last three games consecutively, Chennai Super Kings have now been officially eliminated from the IPL play-off race.
The game against Gujarat tonight was virtually a knockout game for Chennai as a victory here would have kept them in the race. However, Chennai was of no match to Gujarat, who scored 230 runs in the first innings and restricted Chennai to just 140.
This would mean that Chennai is the third team to be eliminated from IPL play-offs this year after Mumbai Indians and Lucknow. This is going to be a very sad result for Chennai fans after a devastating year last term around as well.
For many years, Chennai was one of the most consistent teams in the IPL and they had a strong legacy behind them by winning 5IPL trophies. But things are not smoothly after the transition from Dhoni and this needs to be addressed by next season.
