India Registers First Double Infection Covid-19 Case!

India has registered its first-ever double infection Covid-19 case. A doctor in Assam has been found to be infected with two Covid-19 variants. She is infected with both Alpha and Delta variants of the Coronavirus simultaneously.

According to reports, a female doctor in Assam infected with the Alpha and Delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 simultaneously. The lady doctor was vaccinated with both doses. She had tested positive after her husband. It is said that she was only “mildly symptomatic”. It is said that she may not require hospitalisation now.

Confirming the news, Dr Biswajyoti Borkakoty, the nodal officer at the ICMR Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Assam, told India Today, “We have recently detected a case in which a lady doctor was infected by two different variants of the coronavirus at the same time. The lady doctor was vaccinated with both doses.”

“When we tested her samples in our laboratory, we found that she was infected by both Alpha and Delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 at the same time. Her husband was infected by the Alpha variant. The samples of the doctor were collected twice to ascertain and reconfirm the double infection. It is, hence, confirmed that she was infected by both variants at the same time,” Dr Biswajyoti Borkakoty said. He added that no cases of Delta-plus variant have been identified at ICMR RMRC, Assam so far.

Earlier in March 2021, a 90-year-old woman in the UK’s Belgium had contracted two Covid variants at the same time. She became sick with the Alpha and Beta types of Covid variants those were first identified in the UK and South Africa. Her doctors suspected that she had contracted the infections from two different people. Unfortunately, she died. She was not vaccinated.
