It’s an end to the glorious campaign of Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain at the Tokyo Olympics. The 23-year-old pugilist lost to Turkey’s Busanez Surmeneli in the semifinals of Women’s Welter (64-69kg).
Lovlina gave her best but had to bow down to the brilliance of Busanez, who won the match by 5:0 and cruised into the Finals. Busanez was dominating since the first round and continued her attack in all three rounds.
Lovlina was completely overpowered throughout the game and had ended her campaign in a big defeat. However, there is nothing to complain about because she achieved Olympic Bronze at an age of 23 and has a glorious career ahead.
The Assamese youngster is the third Indian to win a medal at Tokyo Olympics, after Mirabai Chanu and PV Sindhu. As of now, India acquired two bronze and one silver medal. Lovlina created history as she becomes the second Indian woman to win bronze in boxing after Mary Kom.
Later today, India’s Ravi Kumar and Deepak Puniya will be participating in the semifinals of wrestling, and the Indian Women’s Hockey team will be taking on Argentina in the semis.
