Tokyo Olympics: Indian Women Lose In Hockey Semifinals!

The Gold Medal dreams of Indian Women’s Hockey are shattered as the team lost to Argentina in the semifinal match with a score of 2-1. Though there is no chance of winning an Olympic Gold or Silver, Team India is still in contention for the Bronze medal.

India started off the game very well right in the first few minutes of the match. Gurjit Kaur scored a goal off the penalty corner right in the second minute and has put India in a lead with 1-0. Then, Indian players defended well and continued the lead for the entire first quarter.

However, things took a turn in the second and third half. Argentina skipper Maria Noel Barrionuevo scored two goals off the penalty corners in the next two quarters at 18th and 38th minute respectively. Eventually, Argentina got a lead of 2-1 by the end of the third quarter. Later, the Argentinians managed to defend well in the final quarter and never allowed Indians to score a goal. Thus, Indian women had to bow down by the end of the game.

In the first semifinal, Netherlands had defeated Great Britain by 5-1 and qualified for the finals. While Argentina will fight the Netherlands for the Gold, India and Great Britain will compete for the Bronze. Both the remaining matches will be held on August 6.
