After witnessing harrowing scenes and the latest disturbing attack at the Kabul airport, where nearly 182 people were killed, US President Joe Biden on Saturday said that another terror attack is ‘highly likely’ in a day or two.
The US forces are winding down the evacuation process and Biden also vowed to keep up airstrikes against the Islamic extremist group. Before the deadline (Aug 31), the Pentagon said that the remaining contingent of US forces, around 4K, have begun their final withdrawal.
The airstrike on Saturday killed two members of the Islamic State group’s Afghanistan affiliate and Biden said this strike ‘was not the last,’ and the extremists can expect more. “We will continue to hunt down any person involved in that heinous attack and make them pay,” Biden said in a statement.
He further added that US commanders informed him that another attack is highly likely in the next 24-36 hours. So far the US is taking all possible measures to protect and support its troops, who are at the Kabul airport to secure and help evacuees.
Biden warns another terror attack coming on the way and said that the situation is immensely precarious. And a couple of threats of terrorist attacks are increasing each passing day. To recall, a suicide bomber and multiple ISIS-K gunmen killed 13 US service members and 169 Afghan civilians in the attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday.
