Actor Ram Charan’s wife, popular entrepreneur and philanthropist Upasana Kamineni needs no introduction. She carved a niche for herself in society with her philanthropy activities. Now, her grandfather, prominent entrepreneur and the founding Chairman of Apollo Group of Hospitals, Dr Pratap C Reddy and his family have made it to the list of India’s top 100 billionaires. According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list 2021, Pratap Reddy’s family is ranked at 78.
They own a total wealth of Rs. 21,000 crore. Around 15 individuals have made it to the top 100 for the first time and Pratap C Reddy is one of them. It is reported that his wealth shot up to 169%.
Reddy established Apollo in 1983. It is now a chain of hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostic centres, telemedicine centres, primary health care centres, research foundations and medical education centres.
The core body of Apollo Group includes Preetha Reddy (Executive Vice Chairperson), Shobana Kamineni (Executive Vice Chairperson), Suneetha Reddy (Managing Director) and Dr Sangitha Reddy (Joint Managing Director).
According to the list, there are 56 billionaires from Hyderabad and 63 from the state of Telangana. Murali Divi, the founder of Divi Laboratories, is the richest Hyderabadi with a wealth of around Rs. 79,000 crore. He is in the 14th position in the top richest Indians list.
Another Hyderabadi billionaire who made it to the list is B. Partasaradhi Reddy of Hetero Laboratories. His wealth is around Rs. 26,000 crore.
