The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign launched to inculcate and promote patriotism and nationalism among the masses evoked good response in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the campaign had received good response from the people as many hoisted the flag on their houses and establishments expressing their willingness to be a part of nation’s development.
It was good to witness and read reports about the response to the campaign. However, the aftereffects of the campaign were disappointing. Everybody took pride in unfurling the flag at their doorstep but disposal of the tricolor was a big disaster as many of the flags found their way to the dumping bins.
In fact, the all the national flags hoisted should be lowered and stored by folding it as per the procedure.
Along with the selfies with the Tiranga, there were pictures showing an old man winding the tricolor around his groin as a piece of cloth, without giving the due respect to the national flag.
The disrespect shown to the tricolor hurt the feelings of many citizens across the nation. Though there was a campaign specifying the rules to be followed over the disposal of the national flag, people did not care a hoot to look into them or put them into practice.
The central government had put up the dos and don’ts regarding the flag on the social media but they were more honour in the breach than the observance by the public.
