HotD: The Reign Of The Dragons

The first season of House Of The Dragon is already premiering on HBO Max, so have you started watching it yet? The show tells us about the major events that lead to a civil war between the house Targaryen during their rule and lead to the death of most of the dragons. It was a war for the Iron throne between Aegon II and Rhaenyra which lead to the dance of the dragons. 

The House Targaryen family tree can be a complicated one, due to similar namesakes and their love for incest. House Of The Dragon’s first season takes a few hundred years after Aegon’s conquest. We will discuss the Targaryen family tree in detail so you can have a better idea of the Targaryen dynasty. 

The first and most important Targaryen was Aegon I, also known as ‘The Conquerer’. He came from Old Valyria to conquer Westeros. He married his two sisters Visenya and Rhaenys. He had a half-brother Orys Baratheon whose granddaughter Jocelyn Baratheon was later married in the Targaryen family. 

Aegon I and Visenya’s son was Maegor. Rhaenys and Aegon I also had a son called Aenys. Aenys then married Alyssa Velaryon and had five kids namely Alyssane, Jaehaerys, Viserys, Aegon and Rhaena. Aegon and Rhaena were married and had two kids, while Alyssane and Jaehaerys got married. They also had nine kids. 

Aemon, Daella, Alyssa and Baelon are the four kids of Jaehaerys and Alyssane that are important according to the story. Aemon got married to Jocelyn Baratheon. Daella married someone from house Arryn and had a daughter named Aemma. Alyssa and Baelon had two sons Viserys and Daemon from their marriage. Viserys and Aemma married each other and had a girl child named Rhaenyra, which brings us to the present events of House of The Dragon.
