Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma has been awarded the highest sporting honour, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The Centre has announced Khel Ratna and Arjuna awards this evening and along with the Indian opening batsman, para-athlete Mariappan Thangavelu, Table-Tennis champion Manika Batra, wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Hockey player Rani were awarded with Khel Ratna
In the Arjuna award category, Indian pacer Ishant Sharma and female cricketer Deepti Sharma found place. Athlete Dutee Chand, shooter Manu Bhaker were among 27 sportspersons in the list of Arjuna Award.
With the Khel Ratna award Rohit Sharma has emerged as the fourth Indian cricketer to get the award after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. In the 2019 cricket world cup, Rohit Sharma was in superb form and smashed five centuries which is a record.
