Do U Believe! AP Has Highest Native Sex Workers

Andhra Pradesh has the highest native sex workers, says a report released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister. A study was conducted on the various government policy interventions to control HIV spread. During this, startling results came into the light. The study had separated the number of native sex workers to that of the migrant workers. 

In this study, AP topped the list in the country in the native sex workers. Whereas, Maharashtra has the highest number of sex workers in the country which include both the native sex workers as well as the migrant sex workers. The statistics have it that Maharashtra has 6.6 lakh sex workers, followed by Gujarat with 2.3 lakh sex workers and Delhi with 2.3 lakh sex workers. 

In native sex workers, AP has highest with as many as 1.3 lakh native sex workers, Karnataka 1.16 lakh native sex workers and Telangana 1 lakh native sex workers. So, both the Telugu states together have 2.3 lakh native sex workers.

It means the human trafficking for prostitution is rampant in the Telugu states. AP has become the major source of human trafficking, say several NGO leaders who have been working on rehabilitation of sex workers. Meanwhile, some NGO leaders also point out that the migrant sex workers in other states largely have Andhra Pradesh origin.
