Domestic flight departures across the US were disrupted early Wednesday due to a Federal Aviation Administration outage. The flights are slowly resuming departures and getting back to normal operations. More than 21,000 flights were scheduled to take off within the US today and 1840 international flights are expected to fly to the US.
The agency put a ground stop order after its ‘Notice to Air Missions’ system failed. The cause of the problem is not determined yet. More than 5000 flights were delayed and almost 900 were canceled by around 10 am.
The overnight outage caused extensive disruption and thousands of flights remain delayed in the US. Though the stop order was lifted just before 9 am, the delays and cancellations are expected to end up in huge numbers.
White House initially ruled out the possibility of a ‘cyber attack’ as there is no evidence.
