The Oscars 2023, like every year, gives away gift bags worth $126,000 to all the nominees in certain selected categories, irrespective of their winning the actual award. That’s nearly ₹ 1 crore in Indian currency and what actually is in that ‘swag bag’?
The Academy Award nominees take away this gift bag that has over $20,000 in beauty treatments, a $9000 Italian escape, designer clothes, Jewelry, short-term car leases, and many more. Lash Fary has been delivering these gift suitcases to the nominees via his Entertainment marketing company, Distinctive Assets for the past 25 years. He also supplies gift bags at the Grammys.
The nominees for best actor and best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress, and best director, and then we always give one to the host or hosts of the show; this year it’s Jimmy Kimmel. So 27 people are getting these gift bags this year. These bags will be delivered home if they live in the US and the nominees are just visiting in town, they will go to their hotels.
The popular brands compete with each other to have their product in that gift bag and Lash Fary says he won’t buy anything but instead he gets paid by the brands.
What’s in the bag?
There is only about $5000 worth of actual products in the bag and the rest are all the invitations and offers that have no monetary value if not used. A $40,000 trip to a Canada resort, $12000 worth of liposuction, a $20,000 for aesthetic treatments like Botox and fillers are included in the bag, which is not taxed unless they are used.
There is a box of gourmet dates from Dubai Bateel worth $435, and a LL Bean tote bag stuffed with products from Baumen Medical worth $7000 in the bag.
Other things include Human Being Journal from Mahara Mindfulness woth $48 in a vegan leather case, and a new product called Reflect worth $229 that reduces anxiety.
The Lifestyle stays worth $40,000 which allows the voucher holder to spend three nights at an Ultramodern 10 acre-estate in rural Ottawa of Canada.
Havaianas flip flops with $50, Faro Punta Imperatore with $9,000 that allows the nominee and up to seven friends in the lighthouse in Ischia of Italy.
Benigna Parfums worth $396 a luxury fragrance, Frontera Wines with $20, Opopop Popcorn worth $45, Piese of Australia, $425 allows the nominee to become an Aussie Mate with their own plot of land.
