IT Boom: Huge Rush To Hyderabad

Telangana’s IT boom has been attracting students from across the country and abroad to its educational institutions and job opportunities. This trend has also extended to students from the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh, who are increasingly choosing to study in Telangana.

According to recent reports, the TS EAMCET has received more than 70,000 applications from Andhra Pradesh, out of a total of 3.12 lakh applications. Last year, only 53,931 students from Andhra Pradesh had applied.

The rise in applications can be attributed to the availability of quality education and job opportunities in Telangana, particularly in the IT sector. Hyderabad has become an information technology hub, with many renowned engineering and pharmacy colleges around the city.

With the increase in the number of seats in various engineering courses, apart from computer science, non-local candidates are seeking admission to these institutions. This trend is especially prominent in the more than 50 engineering colleges in Telangana that offer better placement opportunities.

Looking at the past few years, the trend of students from Andhra Pradesh moving to Hyderabad for higher education has been growing steadily. In 2022, the JNTUH had received a total of 2, 66, 714 applications, out of which 1, 72, 238 were for the Engineering stream while 94, 476 were for Agriculture and Medical. In 2021, the total number of applications received by JNTUH was 2, 51, 604, out of which 1, 64, 963 were for Engineering and 86, 641 applications were for Agriculture and Medical. In 2020, JNTUH received a total of 2, 22, 246 applications, out of which 1, 43, 265 were for Engineering and 78, 981 applications were for Agriculture and Medical. In 2019, the total number of applications received by JNTUH was 2, 17, 199, out of which 1, 42, 210 were for the Engineering stream while 74, 989 applications were for the Agriculture and Medical streams.

The rise in applications from Andhra Pradesh reflects the increasing trust and confidence in Telangana’s educational institutions and their ability to provide quality education and employment opportunities. As the trend continues, it is likely that Telangana will continue to attract students from neighbouring states and abroad.
