In an exciting announcement, Elon Musk stated that audio and video calls will soon be available on X social media platform, formerly called Twitter. What’s more? X users can make audio and video calls without needing a phone number. This remarkable feature is available for Android, iOS users, desktop users like Mac and Windows.
According to a recent post from Musk on the X platform, both video and audio calls will soon become integral parts of the experience, with X serving as a kind of ‘global address book’. This innovation could eliminate the necessity of saving phone numbers, permitting users to simply search for usernames and initiate calls.
While X (Twitter) already offers the ‘Spaces’ feature for live group conversations, it’s not particularly suited for one-on-one discussions, as its purpose is primarily focused on group interactions. The introduction of audio/video calling capabilities on X could pose a serious threat to its competitors like Threads and Bluesky. Meanwhile, the details about full rollout of this feature is not known yet. It needs to be seen whether this feature will be available to all X users or exclusively to Blue subscribers.
