IPL 2020: SRH Faces Another Defeat

In the first match of the doubleheader today, Mumbai Indians won against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs. It was quite a comfortable win for the men in blue. Barring David Warner, no one clicked for SRH. Thus, they managed to score only 174 while chasing a total of 209. For Mumbai, it was a team effort put by many players like Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, James Pattinson and Trent Boult.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and as expected, elected to bat first. SRH needed a big wicket in the early overs and they got it as Rohit was dismissed in the first over itself. But that didn’t panic the Mumbai camp as Quinton de Kock (67) and Surya Kumar Yadav played some good shots during the power play. Yadav got out right before the powerplay was ended. Young man Ishan Kishan (31) then joined de Kock and kept the score going.

They made a good partnership and SRH needed their trump card, Rashid Khan, to break this bond. Later, Manish Pandey took a stunning catch to send Kishan back to the pavilion. With the quickfire innings of Hardik Pandya (28), Kieron Pollard (25) and Krunal Pandya (20), Mumbai managed to score 208/5 in 20 overs. Sandeep Sharma and Siddharth Kaul took two wickets each. Rashid Khan delivered a stunning spell by giving away just 22 runs in his four overs and also took a wicket as well.

SRH needed a quick start to chase this huge total. They got it as well until Trent Boult got the wicket of well-set batsman Jonny Bairstow. Manish Pandey (30) and David Warner (60) kept SRH in the chase by scoring at a quick rate. Once again, Manish fell by trying a bad shot. Soon, Kane Williamson also departed by scoring only three runs. Warner was the only hope left for SRH. He scored his first half-century of this season.

Last match’s sensation Priyam Garg also left early. The responsibility then fell on the shoulders of David Warner but he got dismissed through a spectacular catch taken by Ishan Kishan. By the end of 20 overs, SRH managed to score 174/7. Bumrah, Pattinson and Boult took two wickets each in the game. Sunrisers will next face Kings XI Punjab on October 8 and Mumbai will take on Rajasthan Royals on October 6.
