Florida Bans Children Under 14 From Having Social Media Accounts

In a revolutionary development, Florida gov. Ron DeSantis signed the bill that bans children under 14 from having social media accounts.

Children who are 14 or 15 will need consent from parents to have a social media account. The bill further directs the social media platforms to delete the accounts of children under 14. The social media companies that failed to do so will be sued on behalf of the child who created an account on the platform. The minor could be awarded up to $10000 in damages.

The companies that violates this order will face up to a $50000 fine per violation.

The bill HB3 will come into effect from January 2025 and it is intended to keep the kids safe online.

This Florida law is expected to face legal challenges over claims that it violates the First Amendment.
